Core consolidates any selection, from a single position to several mandates, and calculates everything from the same transactions: positions, valuation and performance for portfolio management and reporting, chart of accounts and closings for accounting. Everything Core does follows from these five decisions. Each one has a page of its own.

Positions and accounting from the same transactions
The investment view and the accounting view come from the same bookings. What the portfolio shows and what the balance sheet shows go back to the same transaction.

In Core a position is not an input but a result. A late correction recalculates everything it affects from its value date on.

For every position in every consolidation there is a valued state for every day. Analyses read those states instead of replaying years of transactions.

Principle 1
One booking, two books
Accounting in Core has no booking engine of its own. It uses the same one that books the positions, and reads the same transactions. The views differ in what they make of a booking, not in which booking they see.

Each view has its own booking order: by value date, by trade date or by booking date.

Most institutions run Core together with Cinnamon Reporting. Reporting fetches mandates, consolidations, valuations, returns, transactions, benchmarks and segmentations through Core’s interface. The report shows what Core has booked and calculated.
