Cinnamon Core as an accounting engine

The books from the same bookings.

Beside the investment view Core keeps the accounting view: chart of accounts, closings, balance sheet and P&L, booked with the same booking logic from the same transactions. What the balance sheet shows can be traced back to the booking in the portfolio.

The closing

Closings as a chain

Each closing builds on the one before it, back to the opening balance. How firm a closing is decides whether the next period builds on it.

What gets booked

Rules instead of manual work

Rule-based chart of accounts

Accounts are determined by rules, not assigned by hand per position.

Valuation at closing

With mandate-specific closing prices where they exist, and lower of cost or market where the investment type allows it.

Profit broken down

Realised and unrealised, each split into security and currency result.

Accrued interest

Accrued, deferred and reset, under the common day-count conventions, including Actual/Actual (ISMA) and 30/360.

Expenses

Fees, commissions, charges and taxes as a category of their own, and excludable from the return calculation.
